Century Home Main Floor Renovation

Completed in 2024, this main floor renovation celebrates the character of a 100-year-old home while introducing modern functionality, comfort, and style. Our team provided full interior design services, including space planning, construction and demolition drawings, lighting and electrical layouts, custom millwork design, finish and fixture selection, and on-site coordination with suppliers and contractors.

The design was rooted in maintaining the home's original charm—preserving the arched entryway, fireplace, mouldings, staircase, and vintage hardwood floors—while reconfiguring the layout to better suit the needs of modern living. We removed interior walls, a chimney, and a drop ceiling to open up the kitchen and improve overall flow between spaces. The kitchen was further enhanced with an entire wall of windows, connecting it to the backyard and flooding the space with natural light.

Every detail was considered to improve function without compromising style. We designed all custom cabinetry, including a built-in foyer closet, living room TV/bookcase unit, kitchen pantries with an integrated coffee bar, and a dining room storage wall complete with wine, liquor, and broom storage. Clever storage solutions were incorporated throughout, including tray dividers, garbage/recycling pull-outs, upper glass-door display cabinets, and hidden wire management.

Material selections were carefully curated to reflect the home's historic character while introducing a fresh, cohesive aesthetic. Highlights include a black-and-white checkerboard tile in the foyer, Cambria quartz countertops, energy-efficient LED lighting, a floating vanity and wallpaper in the powder room, and gold and black accents in the hardware, lighting, and furnishings. The original built-in buffet was preserved and updated with new hardware and paint to match the refinished dining suite.

This renovation is a strong example of how thoughtful space planning, creative storage solutions, and attention to historic detail can come together to transform a traditional layout into a bright, highly functional, and timeless living space. Through collaboration, creativity, and detailed documentation, we delivered a design that both honors the past and supports modern living.
