Originally this client wanted to add an addition to gain a mudroom and bonus room. They wanted a much larger kitchen with an island, and bigger windows, but privacy was an issue since the house is on a corner lot. They also hoped to increase efficiency and storage in the kitchen and the home office area.

After careful consideration, and the evolution of many designs, it was decided that this family could accomplish everything they needed within the existing house. They had a garage on the lower level, and we converted a room next to it into the mudroom with lots of closet space, storage for hockey equipment, built-ins and a bench.

On the main level, Pam completely changed the plan. She reversed the living room and kitchen areas, which would allow her clients to have a huge kitchen with a 15-foot long island! She converted the den to the dining room so there was no longer a need for an eat-in kitchen. At the end of the 15' island is an eating bar with beautifully upholstered stools. The cabinets are a glazed cream color with sculptured and dentil moldings and a caramel quartz counter top. The island is a showpiece in a dark mahogany stain with a black quartz counter top. The backsplash tile is exquisite with antique copper mosaics laid in brick-joint fashion. One of the many features of the kitchen is the 5' long trough sink centered in the island.

The new living room is open to the kitchen and features a gas fireplace with the TV above and elegant built-ins on each side. New windows in this room bring the beautiful view of the treed property into the living space and add a sense of tranquility. The family can now relax in the living room and with the floor plan reversed; they have the desired privacy from the street traffic. The new deck is a beautiful seating space with vaulted ceiling and privacy screens on the side.

The new foyer is luxurious. It used to have 2 small closets, which were removed and a new large closet was added to the side. Pam designed beautiful arched openings that lead into the dining room and study, and opened up the entrance to the living room with partial height walls and columns giving the feeling of open space while still adding dimension. The beautiful recessed panel wainscotting surrounds the foyer and continues up the stairs.
The stairwell has been completely reconstructed with elegant dark mahogany stained wood treads and newel posts, contrasting with the creamy color of the spindles and risers. Pam also designed all the wainscoting and interior trim details. A small passageway leads from the study through to the living room and the powder room is off of the passageway. The arches on each end make the space private, yet so elegant. This stunning new powder room features a vessel sink on black cabinetry, with glass and stainless steel mosaic backsplash. The beautiful hardwood flooring throughout is a very rich mahogany stain.

The new study features a built-in desk with efficient storage and computer area. The cabinets are stained the dark mahogany color.

The new dining room features a Thomasville, Nocturne dining room suite with ivory seats and chocolate brown walls. The opulent china cabinet features interior lighting and glass shelves.
Pam designed the new lighting layout as a reflection of the new plan. The kitchen is lit with pot lights, under cabinet lighting, some feature lighting on artwork and some pendant lighting over the island. The living room and study feature pot lights with directional lighting at the entertainment cabinetry. The passageway has added ambience with the two directional pot lights highlighting the artwork. New chandeliers were chosen for the dining room and foyer.

Pam also was involved in the selection and coordination of all the new finishes and prepared an Interior Finish Schedule outlining the source and application of all ceramic tiles, grouts, cabinets and counter tops, and paints.

The Contractor who completed the construction of this project is Shirebrook Developments, a custom homebuilder. The cabinets were all supplied by Craftmade Kitchens, whose attention to detail is without compromise.
